Back Ache – Affecting Factors and Home Remedies

The back is the workhorse of the human body. It carries the burden of the entire body and is responsible for almost every move you make. A back ache can be seen in people of any age group, however, it is more common in middle-aged people. Back pain can occur after a specific movement such as lifting or bending and just getting older.

Factors Affecting for Back Pain:

Improper Posture: Improper posture while sitting, excessive standing, walking, and sleeping contributes to a back ache. Sitting in an improper or uncomfortable position on a chair for a long time or driving for a long time every day can cause chronic back pain in people.

Injury:

The injury is a common cause of a back ache. Sudden movement, lifting, bending, etc., can lead to straining of the muscles or the ligaments leading to injury. On the other hand, trauma caused due to fall, the accident on the back can cause sudden severe back pain.

Obesity:

People who are suffered from overweight are at a much greater risk to suffer from back and spine pain. In obese people the amount of weight gives more pressure on your spine that results conditions like osteoarthritis.

Sprains & Fractures:

Sprain and fractures may occur in the vertebrae in your back due to injury from sports or falls. However, both are much more serious and can often result in a chronic back ache.

Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is disease of joints, causes pain in the neck or back that mainly involves the degradation of joints. It results in the breakdown of cartilage in joints and commonly occurs in the weight bearing joints of the hips, knees, and spine.

Spinal Stenosis:Spinal Stenosis is one of the most common causes of a sharp back pain in people over the age of 50 years. It occurs as a result of constriction of space surrounding the spinal cord or spinal nerves.

Pregnancy: Pregnancy is one of the common causes of back pain in women. During pregnancy, the weight of the woman increases considerably resulting in increased pressure on the back.

Home remedies of a Back ache:

There are several home remedies that can be used to lighten pain. Some of the home remedies are

Posture: Sitting right posture is helps to reduce back pain,so always have a good back support when you sit. Sit straight and without a stoop.

Ice Packs: Ice pack can be used to relieve pain, Apply ice pack on a effected area for up to 20 minutes and it acts as an anesthetic and gives you quick relief. After a while, if you don’t feel better and the pain continues, you can gently pat the affected area with an ice pack.

Rest: Taking rest is one of the best home remedy that can be followed to ease back pain. If possible, make sure that you lie down in a comfortable position and take rest.

Exercises: Perform simple and easy exercises like stretching and exercise ball for 20 to 30 minutes that result relax the muscles and back. However, make sure that you perform these exercises under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

Yoga: Research shows that yoga for back pain is a safe and effective. Some of the yoga poses like locust posture, corpse pose, plow pose, cobra pose, and raised feet pose are very beneficial in soothing the pain.
